What’s the big deal with cloud based software?

What is the difference between cloud software and traditional software (and why should I care)?

Ahh this is the key question.  The truth is the software is pretty much the same. The only difference is where it lives.  In traditional software you get a disk or download the program directly onto your computer.   Like Microsoft Word or iTunes, the programs live on your computer and occasionally you need to update them to the current versions.

With web based software like Gmail or your online bank, you don’t need to update the software.  Every time you log on you get the most recent up to date version.  Also you can access it anywhere you are.  Imagine the difference between files stored on your home computer vs files stored in dropbox or your google drive. I realize that if you are currently using dropbox you probably already get this.  For those of you who don’t, I recommend you give it a try. (Full disclosure, unfortunately I get no compensation for this endorsement, but if Google or dropbox want to send some cash my way please let me know)

In addition to being up to date and maintenance free; there is little to no initial upfront cost and web based software is also really easy to use.  You can use it anywhere.  tab32 brings all of these advantages of web based software to your practice.  Unless you really enjoy closing your office for a 3 day training session to learn how to use your software, web based software is generally intuitive and very easy to get started.

The other BIG advantages are security and back up.  Augh more on that later!
